WPBA Reduced to 5 Events in 2009

With the Women’s Professional Billiard Association’s BCA and Carolina Classic 9-Ball tournaments now gone, only 5 events remain for the 2009 season. Not good news for the stadout success story in US pool tours.

IPT’s Kevin Trudeau Fined $37 Million

The founder of the International Pool Tour, Kevin Trudeau, has been found guilty and fined over 37 million dollars after charges were brought forth by the FTC.

While I’m no fan of the FTC or the FDA for that matter, it seems karma might have found its gloves in this case.

And for those that are wondering, the debt hasn’t been paid in my mind. Not only were the participants not given the 4 tournaments & 2nd year possibility they were guaranteed, but more importantly many qualifiers paid thousands to try to get into something that didn’t happen. i.e. The 2nd HUGE season.

There is a critical difference between ambitions and promises. Men with itegrity know it.

Billiards Idol Announces Second Season

The BMPAP organized ‘Billiard Idol’, which attracted more than 200 players to 13 tour stops in the Philippines in 2008, has announced it will continue in 2009. Nothing is being produced for TV as far as I know, the concept would appear to have potential.

Snooker Match Fixing Inquiry

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), the sport’s governing body, has finally announced that a formal investigation will take place into allegations of match-fixing when Stephen Maguire beat Jamie Burnett 9-3 in the first round of the Maplin UK Championship in Telford, Shropshire, on Monday.
